Double JJ Resort
Grand View Golf Course in Rothbury offers a scenic and approachable round in the rolling terrain of western Michigan. Part of Double JJ Resort, the 18-hole course plays to a par of 71 and measures 6,197 yards, with a layout that uses elevation, mature trees, and strategic bunkering to create much of its challenge. Elevated tees provide broad views across the property, while contoured landing areas and gently undulating greens keep the course interesting from start to finish.
The course is not heavily defined by water, with hazards coming into play on only two holes, but nearly 40 bunkers are positioned throughout the layout to influence both tee shots and approaches. Grand View’s No. 8 is the standout, a par 3 that drops sharply from the tee to an island green and provides one of the most memorable shots on the course. The facility also includes a driving range, practice green, clubhouse with golf merchandise, beverages and snacks, and picnic areas that can accommodate groups.
Golfers staying at Double JJ Resort can also play The Thoroughbred Golf Club, an Arthur Hills design that opened in 1993. The course was shaped to follow the property’s woods, wetlands, and lakes, with four sets of tees that provide options for different skill levels. From the back tees, the 147 slope rating presents a much more demanding test. One of its best-known holes is the 425-yard par-4 No. 2, which wraps around a cranberry bog, while the course’s setting also reflects the resort’s equestrian character, with horseback riders having the right of way on cart paths.
Together, Grand View and The Thoroughbred give Double JJ Resort two distinctly different golf experiences. Grand View offers a shorter, value-oriented round with elevation changes and memorable scenery, while The Thoroughbred provides a more demanding championship-style option with greater use of wetlands, lakes, and longer carries.
The resort itself adds plenty to do away from the golf course. Double JJ features multiple lodging options, horseback riding, several restaurants, and family-oriented attractions including the 60,000-square-foot Gold Rush Indoor Waterpark. Guests can also visit the Mystical Forest indoor glow mini-golf course, the arcade, and other resort amenities, making it possible to build a golf trip around activities that appeal to a wider group.
For golfers looking for a western Michigan getaway with more than one course to choose from, Grand View Golf Course and The Thoroughbred provide the golf centerpiece, while the rest of Double JJ Resort adds enough dining, lodging, and recreation to turn a round into a longer stay.
