Shiloh Park Golf Course
Spend the day at one of Northern Illinois’ best with today’s feature: $8 for 9 Holes with Cart at Shiloh Park Golf Course in Zion near Waukegan ($18 Value. Good Any Day, Any Time until July 1, 2017!)
Forget all you think you know about nine-hole courses; today’s feature course, Shiloh Park Golf Course in beautiful Zion, is a standard-setter all its own. Famous for the countless exceptional rounds of golf on its brilliantly manicured Parkland-style golf course, this challenging yet playable facility has been a favorite of local golfers for years – and now it’s your chance to take it on.
Playing 2,900 yards from the back set of tees, the multi-faceted challenge at Shiloh Park is as enjoyable and challenging as they come in the Prairie State. Playing as a par-35 that could easily play closer to 37 or 38, every club in your bag will be tested here thanks to the unique design and variety of natural challenge present on every hole.
Though the course doesn’t offer any real drastic changes in elevation, the subtle undulation throughout the fairways and rough can contribute to tricky lies if you miss the flat landing areas. Water is in play here, requiring at least one forced carry during your nine, but can be mostly avoided with proper course management and smart club choice. Several cleverly placed bunkers also sit between you and a low score, as well as some heavily wooded areas and other areas of natural waste hazard. Avoid these while focusing on accuracy off of the tee, and you may just find yourself with a score you can brag about at the end of the day.
Though the entire course features some of the finest conditions you’ll find anywhere north of the Chicagoland area, the greens at Shiloh Park are truly what set this course apart from others in the area. Deceptively undulated and hard to read, these lightning-fast putting surfaces test even the most consistent putters with their unpredictability. A steady hand is a must if you want to avoid those dreaded three- and four-putts, so be sure to put in plenty of time on the practice green before teeing off on #1.
