Located just a short drive from Akron off of 71, today’s feature course, Ridge Top Golf Course, is one of the Media-area’s finest. Built in 1961 and designed by Bob Pennington, Ridge Top’s beautiful scenery and fair golf course make it a excellent playing experience for players of all kinds.

Though all 18 holes take advantage of the exceptional natural features provided by the Montville Township countryside, the front and the back nines of Ridge Top offer two distinctly different playing experience that require two different approaches if you want to shoot a low score. The front nine, playing the longest of the two at just over 3,200 yards from the back set of tees, is made up of mostly lengthy doglegs that require accuracy and shot execution on virtually every shot. Notable challenges on the front include the 7th hole which plays as the courses longest at 545 yards, as well as the par-5 4th that features a nearly 90-degree dogleg left.

Though the front also rewards the player who can keep the ball in the fairway, it’s the back where keeping the ball in play is the most critical. With three forced carries over water, including on the finishing 18th, fairways on the back nine don’t tend to heavily bend left or right but are instead very tight and easy to miss with an errant shot. Focus on placing your tee shot on or near the fairway with your driver, and you should be well on your well to hitting greens in regulation throughout your round.
