Some golf courses are beautiful but not very playable, while others are extremely playable with very little going on. Today’s feature course, Wolf Laurel Country Club in Mars Hill, gives you the best of all worlds by offering a one-of-a-kind playable championship layout in one of the most spectacular settings in American golf. Elevated atop the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounded by the incredible scenery of the Carolina countryside, this Parkland-style masterpiece offers one of the Southeast’s best rounds of golf.
Designed by W.B. Lewis and opened for play in 1965, Wolf Laurel’s mature layout stands alone as one of the highest courses east of the Mississippi River. Beautiful and challenging, though always playable for the careful shot-planner, you’ll regularly experience exceptional conditions, beautiful vistas, and elevation changes of up to 300 feet at various points throughout your round.
As you make your way through the front nine at Wolf Laurel, you’ll have the chance to take on the course’s signature challenge: the par-3 sixth. Officially playing a lengthy 200 yards from the back set of tees and actually playing much shorter thanks to the elevation change of more than 200 feet from tee to green, number six isn’t the most challenging hole on the course but does offer some of the best views anywhere in North Carolina golf. Use this relatively straight-forward par-3 to secure a par or better, and you’ll be well on your way to shoring up a low score on the front nine.
Part of the Wolf Laurel Resort, Wolf Laurel Country Club features a variety of awesome amenities right on site. The pro shop is full-service, offering club repair and retail sales, while the clubhouse, overlooking Big Bald Mountain, sports incredible views and the perfect place to relax after your round. Best of all is the clubhouse dining, brought to you by executive chef Jacob Pacetti, which offers some excellent options to cap off your day of fun.
A remarkable course in an unforgettable setting, a trip to Wolf Laurel is Carolina golf at its best. Don’t wait – reserve your round now!
