Opened for play in 1977 with a beautiful design by noted Ohio architect Richard LaConte, Briardale Greens quickly set the standard for golf in the shadow of Lake Erie. Thanks to its playable yet challenging design, exceptional use of the Midwestern countryside, and all-around fantastic conditioning, it has become one of the best places to play in the Cleveland area. The layout features many areas of challenge, but it’s the greenside bunkers–present on just about every hole–that you’ll really want to watch out for. Combine their near-constant presence with several imposing water hazards and some wooded areas surrounding fairways and greens, and you’ve got yourself quite a bit of challenge standing between you and a low score on the day.

Though the bunkers are there to guard them, the greens themselves hardly need the help. That’s because their large size, frequent undulation, and fabulous condition (which leads to some pretty speedy putts), makes them a truly formidable foe. It’s also what prompted the Plain Dealer to award Briardale the honor of Best Greens in Northeast Ohio.

Though the course is the main draw at Briardale, the amenities leave literally nothing to be desired – and will have you fed, practiced, and equipped before you head out the door. First, you’ll definitely want to check out the clubhouse restaurant: Sticks Pub & Grille. As far as 19th holes go, it’s one of the best – with fresh fare and all of your favorite drinks in a comfortable atmosphere. For practice, the driving range offers grass, synthetic, and covered tees – allowing you to get your work done even in less-than-ideal weather. Finally, the pro shop is fully stocked and expertly staffed, and will have you playing, looking, and feeling your best next time you hit the course.
