Briar Leaf Golf Club

Built on the gorgeous and fertile lands of a former farm, today’s feature course, Briar Leaf in La Porte, in known by locals as one of the best rounds of golf anywhere between South Bend and Gary.

What you’ll find out on your visit to Briar Leaf is an extremely playable course dotted with areas of significant challenge. Playing 6,579 yards from the back set of tees (of which there are four), long hitters do have an advantage here, especially considering most landing areas are fairly flat and wide with limited mature trees in play. Water is present on the course, but isn’t a concern on most holes if you stay in the fairways or first cut of rough. There are, however, quite a few significantly sized fairway bunkers throughout that make accuracy of the utmost importance. Rated 72.5/133 from the tips, Briar Leaf’s exquisite conditions, interesting layout, and relaxed atmosphere make it a round you don’t want to pass up.

Signature Hole: Just as you get settled into your round at Briar Leaf, you’ll be faced with what is perhaps the course’s most difficult test. Cleverly known as “Alcatraz” because of its island green and (mostly) psychological challenge, the third hole only plays 138 yards from the back tees but is intimidating enough to be the make-or-break moment of your front nine. Come through #3 with bogey or better, and you’ll be well on your way to shooting a low score on the day.
