Benton County Golf Course
A proud part of Indiana golf heritage, Benton County Golf Course in Fowler offers a laid-back, welcoming experience steeped in local tradition. First opened in 1943 and designed by acclaimed golf course architect William (Bill) Diddel, the 9-hole layout delivers a blend of approach-shot challenge and walkable charm, with tree-lined fairways and smooth, well-maintained greens serving as the course’s signature features.
The course plays as a full 18-hole experience thanks to multiple sets of tee markers, stretching out to a total yardage just under 6,000 yards when played from the back tees. The layout challenges players with subtle elevation changes, mature trees, and a few doglegs that demand smart shot placement. Water doesn’t feature in the design with the exception of a forced carry on the par-3 No. 5, but the narrow corridors are plenty to keep you on your toes. From the first tee through the final green, Benton County Golf Course balances accessibility with enough bite to test seasoned players looking to go low.
Located just 20 minutes north of West Lafayette and about 90 minutes south of Chicago, Benton County Golf Course is an easy drive for golfers across the region. As of April 1, 2025, Benton County Golf Course is managed by O’Neal Golf Management – the same team behind nearby golf courses Harrison Hills Golf Club (Attica, Ind.) and Battle Ground Golf Club (Battle Ground, Ind.) – ensuring a consistent standard of course conditions and customer service.
But what really rounds out the experience is the all-new 1871 Grille, which officially opened on May 31, 2025. Named in honor of Fowler’s founding year, the 1871 Grille features a full-service menu with entrees, salads, and wraps. Standouts from the menu include parmesan-crusted chicken, and broiled salmon—perfect ways to cap off a relaxing round. With indoor banquet space available and a casual pub-style vibe, the 1871 Grille is quickly becoming a favorite destination.
Whether you’re there for nine holes, a full day of 18, or simply a great meal with a view, Benton County Golf Course delivers a small-town golf experience with regional-quality amenities making this public facility one of Indiana’s best-kept secrets.
