Apple Valley Golf Club
Since its debut in 1972, Apple Valley Golf Club has steadily built a reputation as one of Central Ohio’s most beloved and consistent golf experiences. Designed by respected architects Bill Newcomb and John Robinson, the par-72 championship course spans nearly 7,000 yards of lush, rolling terrain. With its generous bluegrass-bentgrass fairways and Dye-influenced design features, the layout blends the natural beauty of Knox County with a strategic test of golf that rewards creativity and precision in equal measure.
From the elevated tee of the opening dogleg-left to the dramatic water carry on the par-3 No. 5—ranked the region’s favorite par-3—Apple Valley opens with a strong statement. Towering pines, barnstones, and lakes frame this signature hole, where fortune favors the bold but the green rejects the timid. The stretch from Nos. 8 through 11 has been affectionately dubbed the “Amen Corner of Apple Valley,” where sloping fairways, tree-lined doglegs, and deceptive elevation changes present a gauntlet that challenges even seasoned players.
Despite the firm test of golf, the course welcomes players of all skill levels with four tee boxes and forgiving fairway corridors. Most greens offer open fronts, inviting bump-and-run approaches or low spinners, depending on the day’s conditions. Once on the putting surfaces, however, the game changes: the greens are sleek and true, with subtle breaks and swift speeds that demand a confident stroke.
Apple Valley is a complete facility that has grown with care under the stewardship of the Mickley family since 1982. Their ongoing commitment to excellence includes impeccable conditioning, annual enhancements, and thoughtful hospitality that rivals private clubs. The clubhouse features expanded grill room seating, a modernized pro shop, and a stunning banquet facility with panoramic views of the course. The banquet room, which seats up to 120 guests, is ideal for weddings, receptions, and corporate events, while the bar & grill area is open to the public and renowned for its full hot breakfast.
A strong competitive pedigree rounds out the Apple Valley experience. The course has hosted the NCAA Division III National Championship, Ohio Public Links events, and serves as the site for the Division I High School Regional Championship. Yet despite its acclaim, Apple Valley has always maintained its welcoming public spirit. Open from April through November and beautifully groomed throughout the season, it offers an honest, scenic round in the tradition of Johnny Appleseed—the pioneering spirit whose legacy inspired the course’s name.
